Venice Foo (b. 1996, Malaysia)

Venice Foo, also known as Chau Xhien is a full time artist based in North Borneo. From paintings to needle works, her works are meticulously detailed and colourful under the influence of the maximalist aesthetic.

Venice has been actively joining exhibitions and community art projects since 2015. Starting as a muralist, she then experimented with different types of creative practices throughout the years such as portrait drawing, crochet, embroidery, beading and weaving.

Beyond textiles, Venice is also a tattoo artist specializing in free-hand ornamental designs, working exclusively with the hand-poke method. Her approach to tattoing is intuitive and organic, allowing each piece to flow naturally with the body’s form, much like the dynamic and fluid nature of her textile work.

For Venice, creating is a process of discovery and connection. Whether through a canvas, thread, or ink, she embraces playfulness, pushing the boundaries of traditional techniques to create work that inspires and resonates deeply. Her passion lies in making people feel and allowing art to become a bridge of storytelling.
